Summary
An alternate universe where Buck and Eddie weren’t meant to meet at the 118. Instead they meet in a front yard in El Paso.
When Evan Buckley moved to Texas at the young age of 8 years-old, he never expected his new best friend would come walking over from the house across the street. Instantly inseparable, the two boys grow up side by side, experiencing everything together from broken bones to first heartbreaks to even Eddie having a son.
And through it all, Buck loves Eddie silently, concealing feelings he knows he’ll never admit in fear of losing his best friend.
It isn’t until they move to the great city of L.A. together with nothing but a few dollars between them, their shared love and commitment to Christopher, and a childhood pinky promise of fulfilling their dreams together that Eddie, in his adult life, sees Buck as what he’s always been: the love of his life.
But Buck, excited for this new chapter, has declared to anyone and everyone that his juvenile feelings for Eddie are gone, that he’s completely over him.
But Eddie’s finally ready, and he’s determined to win Evan Buckley’s heart back, his best friend of 21 years. He just hopes it’s not too late.

Melanie exhaled shakily on the other end of the line. “Evan Buckley was admitted here at 9:30 PM after a failed attempt—” There was a brief pause, “to take his own life.”
A ringing filled Eddie's ears, and his breath quickened.

Summary
Buck can only hope, after how awful the year previous was, that the new year will be better. He has a clean bill of health, and he gets to do the job he loves, even if he isn't doing it at the 118 any more. But the world is about to go to hell around him, and it's another Buckley sibling's turn to have an uninvited ghost intrude back in their lives.
