It's October 1984, and Demogorgons are still coming to Hawkins from the Upside Down, opening gates around Hawkins Lab. Every night, Steve patrols the woods, hoping to stop them before they kill anyone else.
Hawkins has had a hard year.
When the new guy that's been giving him shit in gym class is attacked by a Demogorgon, Steve saves his life. Now if only he would stop turning up in dangerous places in various states of injury... Because Demogorgons are attracted to blood.

Summary
In which everything is the same except Steve has a cat.
Garfield (aka “Harrington’s demon cat”, “that ginger monster”, “meanest bitch in Hawkins”) is an absolute beast of a cat. She's picky and violent and has, on multiple occasions, actually drawn blood from people just for existing in her space. Not Steve though; she loves Steve more than anything else in the world.
And for some reason, she *doesn’t* hate Billy Hargrove.

“Garfield,” Tommy repeats incredulously, “Steve’s Garfield?”
“Well, I’m not talkin’ bout the one in the fucking funny strips, am I?” Billy asks, annoyed and a little baffled.
“Steve’s cat, Garfield,” Carol repeats, slowly, like she thinks he’s a bit dumb. He scowls at her and she ignores it entirely. “She was sweet to you? Sweet how?”
Jesus Christ. “I dunno, how are any cats sweet? She purred a lot and went all relaxed when I held her – usual cat stuff.”
“You held her?!” Tommy shouts, draws eyes all to their table until Carol whips around to glare the rest of the cafeteria into submission. In a low wild hiss, “you held Steve Harrington’s cat and you’re still alive?”
