Summary
Sam has started the Apocalypse and the guilt consumes him. He's broken by Dean's abandoning of him and wonders why he's still around.
Season Five Episode 3 (and the beginning of episode 4); I was having a lot of feelings about Sam's arc and how it relates to Dean. I did not finish episode four before writing, so it's canon compliant to the point of Sam calling Dean about Lucifer. After that, the stress gets to Sam, and he doesn't see the point anymore.

And then… and then I was trapped in my mind, reliving it over and over.” Charles had paused then, a small grin spreading across his face. “I guess I can’t call it reliving, huh? More like… re-dying?” He had started laughing then, though Hank didn’t see anything funny about the situation. “I died for him, Hank. I died for Erik, and he left me. He left. And now I’m dead.” The telepath had laughed and laughed, until the laughing had turned to crying, and then to sobbing. Until they had to sedate him.
