Summary
Carol Holliday watched her daughter disappear through an ajar door into the empty school. Her daughter, over the course of the week, had been late home studying, had lied about visiting her father, had stolen money from Carol’s purse, and now, had snuck out of their home and illegally entered government property. The talking to she was going to get would be legendary.
Many had accused Carol of being too strict a mother. She disagreed. She knew from experience what happened when you allowed a child too long a leash. She was not going to make that mistake again. Noelle had too much promise to be wasting it on hoodlum things like this.
The brick in the doorway was a Kris classic. Typical. That child had always had a way of tricking Noelle into bad decisions. That’s exactly why her leash needed to be tightened. She was too naive, too easy to control.
