Summary
Orpheus was a poor boy, touched by the Gods. He could hear music where no one else could, from the earth below to the skies up above.
But some melodies aren’t meant for the mortal ear.
Some things aren’t meant to be reached for.
And some roads keep their score.
OR
A retelling of Hadestown in an AU where Orpheus’ affinity for music comes with choices and costs. Told through the eyes of both Hermes and Orpheus, from Orpheus’ childhood to post-canon.

Summary
“Is he always like this?” She asked Hermes, unable to keep the desperation from her voice. The first time she’d asked the question, she had been admittedly endeared by his forward nature and earnestness. Now, all of that was gone, replaced by a stretched-thin and hyper-focused version of the boy she loved. Hermes had been honest, giving her a weary “yes,” and she’d turned back to husband with a pain in her heart and guilty frustration.
