As Alex moved past him, Paul tried to reach out, to bridge the emotional gap between them, but she recoiled. "Don't touch me," she spat, pushing his hand away. "You lost that privilege a long time ago."
Paul took a step back, his expression a mix of remorse and acceptance. "I just want you to know that I never stopped caring about you."
Her eyes narrowed, the intensity of her anger undiminished. "Caring about me? You don't get to use that excuse now. You cared about yourself, your company, and your own interests. Don't pretend it was anything else."
