They stepped aside, and Percival lowered his voice. “I know what your son is.” He continued before she could interrupt with the explanation he wasn’t REALLY her son, “And I know it’s because of your guidance, your strong faith, that he hasn’t fallen into Satan’s hands. You are an inspiration. I want to know how I can be involved. I haven’t been able to find a church here I’m happy with... They don’t understand. Not like you. A real Christian.”
For the first time she felt seen. Had God sent her a husband? “You must come to our Sunday dinner.”

“Credence, are you certain you understand that man wasn’t me?” Mr. Graves asked gently. Despite Percival’s many apologies across several days, Credence had avoided looking directly at him. He had not said much of anything either.
“How are you feeling?” Percival inquired. It was a loaded question, he knew. He clarified, “Are you in as much pain?” He sat near him in the darkness after picking up a blanket that had slid off the bed.
“I am… always… in pain.”

William Frankenstein wants to sell the estate. Victor Frankenstein does not, but cannot deny that he requires money. He could of course do as his father did, and marry a woman with a large dowry, but he wishes to keep himself single and free, in case Elizabeth ever comes to her senses about being with him.
He does, however, technically have a male child. It will require careful handling, but if such a match were arranged correctly, the woman in question would not ever have to meet his creation.
Victor gets money, and some unmarriageable woman gets to say that she’s married without ever having to serve a husband. It’s quite an elegant solution.

Camille’s father and uncle have forced her into a marriage with a man she’s never met.
The thing is that nobody else seems to have met him either, and her new father-in-law will tell her nothing.
