“Say that again,” Marcus dares. Wood juts his jaw forward, petty and defiant.
Marcus grabs Wood’s chin and jerks his head to the side, repeating murderously, “Say that again, and you’re gonna— Ow, fuck!”
Wood lunges forward and snaps his teeth, deciding what he’s gonna do is try and bite Marcus’ fucking thumb off.
“What the hell!” Marcus shrieks, in a voice a little too high for his liking. He feels the last flicker of self-restraint leave his body as he swings his fist at Wood’s face.

He hated that it was her, detested that she didn't blame him, that she could stand to be around him. He had been the reason her person was dead. And yet she kept coming back to help him.

“I swear I mean this in the nicest way possible, Pads…it’s not about you,” Peter says, finally breaking the silence. Sirius snorts wetly. ‘That was nice?’ he wants to quip, and Peter chuckles as if he knows exactly what he’s thinking. “I just mean…it’s not personal. You know that, don’t you?”
Sirius shrugs, perching his chin on his knee and looking down at the dirty handkerchief in his hands rather than at Peter’s face. He shifts his foot, leaning it into Peter’s touch. Even through two pairs of shoes, it’s a comforting pressure. “It feels personal.”
“It always does when it feels like you’ve been left out.”
