Summary
Maddie Buckley doesn’t know what to do. Doesn’t think she can do anything other than cry. Her knees sting and her chest aches, and she already lost one brother and she can’t lose another. She’s not sure how long she sits there, in the middle of the road, before she remembers the number, tucked safely into her locked jewelry box back in her room, handed to her by Aunt Robin at Daniel’s funeral last year.
“If you ever need anything, and I mean anything, please call. Anytime.” She had said tucking the paper into Maddie’s pocket when Mom and Dad weren’t looking because Mom and Dad don’t like Aunt Robin and Maddie isn’t really sure why. “New York is only a few hours away.”
OR
The Buckley parents decide, following Daniel's death, that they aren't equipped to raise Evan. When Maddie catches them leaving in the middle of the night, she calls her Aunt Robin for help and somehow gets a new family out of it?
OR
Steve and Robin adopt Evan and Maddie, abandon their life in New York City to raise them in their more affordable hometown of Hawkins, and run into a few familiar faces that they haven't seen in awhile.
