His twin is his, and his alone; God knows what Joseph would do if he realizes Claude’s crying and needing another person's reassurance. That would never happen, he would never let his brother leave him. Claude is afraid of Joseph abandoning him, but Joseph has already decided that his darling would never leave, he’d never let him, so there’s no reason to worry about one of them leaving the other.

“Oh that is no surprise,” Désire said, resting his cane against the table, “I came here for personal reasons.” He smiled, and Gatto found the duplicity of it nauseating. “Personal….reasons?” The scientist repeated warily.
A split second. That was how fast he moved. One moment there was considerable distance between them, the next, Désire was right up in his face, not touching him but looking down into his eyes with an intensity so terrifying it rooted Gatto to his spot.
