Mira lifted a perfectly shaped eyebrow at the jab.

Mira's lips curved into a sly smile, dimpling her cheeks. Rumi's pulse fluttered in turn, something electric simmering beneath her calm exterior.

"Hey!"
Something prickles at the back of her neck—Rumi glances in the direction of the sound just to confirm that yes, that was aimed at her.
The source, a short woman with a lopsided smile, rolls slowly up to them on a skateboard. She comes to a smooth stop with a sneaker and adjusts her hat with one hand. The other disappears into the pocket of her baggy cargo pants as she leans casually to the side, stopping her board with one foot.
She says something else, probably. Her mouth is certainly moving—but it's kind of hard to focus on that when her freckles are so pretty and when her big brown eyes look up at Rumi with the sunlight reflecting perfectly in them. Really, it's hard to think of anything at all but those pink lips and the blunt nails that play with the rim of her cap.
Rumi blinks in a bit of a daze.
"Hey," the woman says again. "You lost?"
Or: Rumi and Mira get lost on vacation. The good news is that Zoey is more than happy to help.

Mira didn't find out about Rumi's patterns on purpose. Rumi didn't tell her because she wanted to, not because she was just bursting with the need to tell the truth or because she trusted Mira with her deepest, darkest secret.
She told her because Mira was bad at emotional regulation, and Rumi was even worse at communication, and frankly it's just difficult to fuck out your frustrations when you're both clothed.
