He sees Xie Lian smile out of the corner of his eye. Then the light turns off, and Hua Cheng’s eyes take a second to adjust to the darkness, his ears flicking on instinct, before he follows Xie Lian to the tiny twin mattress on the floor and lies on the very edge of it.
“You’ll fall off,” Xie Lian laughs, loops an arm around his waist, and tugs him closer. Hua Cheng’s back hits a very solid chest, and he lets out an “oof”.
Hua Cheng doesn’t move away, and Xie Lian doesn’t let go, and as far as Hua Cheng can tell, the deer at his back falls asleep like that, his breaths evening out and his arm relaxing. Cuddled up to a strange alpha, a wolf he let into his home.
