Stars Hollow je skvělé místo pro svobodné matky, které před něčím utíkají nebo se potřebují schovat. Takhle se sem kdysi dostala Mary Young se svojí nenarozenou dcerou Lily a o několik let později díky ní objevila tohle město i Lorelai s Rory.

Co by se stalo, kdyby se kromě klasických čarodějů, čarodějek, mudlů a různých kouzelnických bytostích vyskytovali ve světě ještě bilokanti? Mocní čarodějové s úžasnými schopnostmi. Jenže o tom Kate vůbec netuší. Až do svých jedenácti let vyrůstala v dětském domově, kdy se jí často zdávalo o černovlasém brýlatém chlapci s jizvou na čele. Potom ale nastala změna. She lives in a Brooklyn one-bedroom apartment, without family, has a not-so-good past and needs two jobs to manage the rent in that mini-apartment. Yet their worlds collide.

Na první pohled by se dalo říct, že tenhle příběh je taková moderní Popelka.
On žije ve světě absolventů Harvardu (a jednoho ne-absolventa), drahých obleků, veledůležitých právnických afér a luxusních manhattanských apartmánů a kanceláří. Ona žije ve v Brooklynském jednopokojovém bytě, nemá pořádně rodinu, zato má nepříliš dobrou minulost a potřebuje dvě práce na to, aby zvládla v tom minibytě platit nájem. Přesto na sebe jejich světy narazí.
Ale problém je, že ona rozhodně není Popelka. -
