Einrich takes a thoughtful drag of his lho-stick, frowning slightly as he searches Laz's face. Probably for some kind of trick to all this. This isn’t what he expected to hear.
He leans in, smoke leaking from his nose and mouth, and breathes a small puff of smoke into Laz’s face.
"What if I do like it?"

Investigation into the incident suggests an attempt to induce a cascading breach of the Gellar fields, via the prolonged torture and attempted possession of the Silverlow family's indentured psyker. The situation was resolved in a confrontation on the ship's bridge. 1,108 fatalities, but no major breaches of the field or reported corruption among the wider crew. Crew mutations remain within acceptable parameters. Daemonic activity has been purged from the ship. End report.
Not necessary to read for the rest of the series, but a bit of background for Laz.

Here is a young man all scars and battle-wounds, a snarling pacing thing with a taste for blood and salt and smoke. There are teeth behind the soft curve of his smile and there is a flicker-bright sharpness behind the drooping lashes, something all coiled up tight in the ridges of his spine.
After all, what good are niceties against monsters? There are things more dangerous than ghosts and dream-like wraiths; ghosts have no power in the sunlight.
