Summary
In room 1410, Ilya Rozanov is ready to walk out the door after successfully getting his teenage hockey rival into bed. He knows what to do to make this happen and he knows what they have to be to each other now that it's over. But as he turns the doorknob to leave, he's stopped with questions he never expected. And giving Hollander what he needs in that moment will change everything.
Author's notes: I’m autistic and see a lot of myself in Shane Hollander. So I thought, in this situation, what if he did exactly what I did the first time I hooked up with someone and didn’t know what the protocol was after it was over, what the next steps were, how to be like everyone else in a moment that felt amazing and confusing at the same time. What if he just asked?
Canon divergent from the first hookup seen in HR s01ep01. Some things are from the show - aged up Marleau and Hunter, mainly - but the timeline is a mix of both. (Notably, they don't wait *two years*, they stick to the book timeline. IYKYK.) Some tags are for later chapters. After Ilya and Shane are outed, someone on the internet decides that Shane bagging “the dangerously sexy Russian bear” means that he’s a sex goddess (yes, a fucking godDESS) and a babygirl and a daddy and a walking, talking thirst trap and all sorts of other things Shane doesn’t even want to know about. It's embarrassing and it’s annoying and it’s really, really weird.
Luckily Shane and Ilya have Harris, Centaurs’ nice and savvy social media manager. Harris tries to keep the highspeed train on the rails, but the internet doesn’t get his memo. And when the free and welcoming atmosphere of his new team slowly lures the real Shane Hollander out of his shell, Harris’s plan falls flat on its face. And there’s a real danger that Harris himself might follow.

Something was wrong. A wave of protectiveness swept up within him before he stamped on it hard, unleashing a powerful strike at the goal on the assist automatically. He didn’t even bother to look to see if it went in, his eyes reorienting themself to where Hollander was shrugging off a medic.
It was his Dom side, he knew. Latching onto someone it thought was his and wanting to save them from the world. But Hollander wasn’t his. He was a fun hook up, and interesting company once you got to know him a bit, but not his.
Ilya hasn't seen Hollander since Vegas, and the first time they meet on the ice, months later, Hollander's playing is awful. Ilya's a Dom, a high level one, but as far as he knows Hollander's a Null, no designation. Doesn't need headspace. Doesn't Scene. Doesn't Drop.
But Hollander is Dropping. Has Dropped. And no one else seems to notice. So Ilya steps in without really thinking things through.

Summary
Shane overwhelms himself with the research Ilya has instructed of him. To stop him from spiraling, Rose and Hayden come over to help him sort out his thoughts and understand exactly what being submissive means for him and how to understand it.
This fic is a direct sequel to I'll Take Care Of You... Like I Didn't Last Time. You can probably get away with not reading it if you don't want to, but it will make way more sense and give you what I'd consider to be needed context. But you do you, my guy 🤷🏻♀️
I cannot stress this enough, I WROTE THIS SERIES WITH THE TIMELINE ON SHUFFLE. I have no answers about the timeline. You're just gonna have to go with it.
