Summary
The Dance of the Dragons is over and Rhaenyra Targaryen is dead, but Aegon II Targaryen's throne is far from secure. With enemies approaching and rumors swirling of a plot to replace him with Rhaenyra's son, a badly injured Aegon II Targaryen must somehow unite a deeply divided realm and convince his lords that he is still capable of being king. To do this, he makes a plan to marry Baela Targaryen, daughter of his most hated enemy.

Aegon's strong body pressed firmly against hers, pinning her to the stone wall behind them. With one hand, he held hers in place while the other gripped the cold valyrian dagger, placing it against the delicate skin of her throat. His intense gaze locked with hers, sending shivers down her spine as she tried to read the emotions hidden within his eyes.
As he brought his face closer to hers, he nearly whispered, "Your eyes are so cruel." She remained still, locking eyes with him without making any attempt to move.
"I can be just as cruel." With that, he pressed the dagger with more force, causing the crimson blood to emerge.
