Stiles is four and scared of the dark. There are things in the shadows of his room, whispering to him, showing him terrible, violent things.
There's something in the basement, too. He can feel it while he's sitting on the old, worn sofa, its presence curling around the edges of the room. He thinks he can see something sometimes, a mass shimmering in the corner, but he always looks away. He doesn't want to know.

The kid grins. His response is quick, sharp and not at all shaken. “My dad says they’re gonna put ‘it was an accident’ on my tombstone.”
Peter’s lips twitch up, amused despite himself. “How often do things happen to you by accident?”
“I’ve got interesting luck.”
Peter’s not sure why that feels like the understatement of the decade.

Stiles stared down at the man in front of him with a deep frown. Peter settled into his chair with a satisfied sigh and tipped his head back, closing his eyes. And Stiles couldn't fucking believe it.
"How do you do that?" he snapped with irritation.
The man rose a brow but his eyes stayed comfortably shut. "Do what?"
Stiles glared. "You're just... Fuck, you're not bothered by anything, are you?!" Those chilly blue eyes cracked open just enough for the man to peer down at the seething boy. "You're literally about to die and-... And you don't even care!"

Peter gets cursed by a witch and once the clock hits midnight, he'll suffocate. He's accepted his fate after they've exhausted every resource they can to stop it, and tries to convince Stiles to relax with him and spend his last moments doing anything other than stressing about something they can't control.
But, damn it, Stiles never could admit defeat, and he sure as hell wasn't going to start now.
