Summary
Tim Drake has always been something other in every situation. He accepts that with the grace he was raised to portray. He knows what he means to the people around him and he expects it when Dick brushes past taking Robin away and making him a Justice League fugitive. He expects it when Bruce doesn't do more than nod after the year from hell. He even expects it when he returns from four years of nightmares with Ra's, victorious, but clearly not missed by the people who could have saved him. He expects it, but that doesn't make it hurt less.
Or
Ra's takes the battle with Tim a step further in new horrifying ways. Tim wins, but going home doesn't feel like a reward anymore.

His life was not pleasant, but Jason was nothing if not a fighter, and dammit if was he going to let the hell around him kill who he was as a person. Or his dreams of growing up and going to college.
Those dreams suddenly came a little more into focus, when his idiot of a pimp accidentally tried to rent him to Bruce Wayne. Poor bastard could have never guessed he was the Batman himself. Heck, not even Jason figured that out, at first. And Batman had practically adopted him.

“Epilepsy.” Tim breathed. He was already shaking his head. “But I feel fine.”
“You’re fine now,” Bruce said, his hand on Tim’s knee. “Because of the medications that you have been put on. They are helping to regulate your body, keeping inappropriate electrical impulses at a minimum.”
“Inappropriate electrical impulses.” Tim said. “Really Bruce, I’m not a child.”
“A normal child wouldn’t have understood what I just said.” Bruce countered.
Tim blinked. Then, again.
“I would have.” Tim finally said.
__________________Timothy Jackson Drake is many things.
He's brilliant, he's brave, he's Red Robin. Some might say he's a little shit, but that was neither here nor there. Well, actually, yeah, he's a little shit but whatever.
What Tim can't be is broken.
He can't possibly bring shame to the Drake name and the Wayne family. He can't possibly have epilepsy, because he is meant to be better than that, he needs to be better than that.
