His face softened, one eyebrow quirking gently upward. “Yeah?” he murmured, voice tinged with both curiosity and caution. “What would that be?”
Charlie inhaled—deep and shaky, the way one might before diving headfirst into freezing water—and then said it.
“We could… be friends with benefits?”
