"Late again," Percy said without looking up from the intricate clockwork spread across his desk, his voice dry as old paper left too long in sunlight. The workshop smelled of metal filings and gun oil.
"Miss me that much?" Vax drawled, dropping into the nearest chair with a theatrical sigh, one leg slung carelessly over the armrest. His dark hair fell across his face in that particular way Percy pretended not to find distracting, though his fingers twitched with the urge to brush it back.
"I was hoping for silence, actually." Percy adjusted his spectacles, a nervous habit that betrayed more than he intended.
"Liar." Vax's smile unfurled slowly, like a cat stretching in a patch of sun.
Vax has been dancing around his feelings for months now. Hells he's probably been in love with Percy since the first night they met. He's just terrible at saying it out loud. Percy meanwhile thinks he's probably about to get dumped.

Vex seized her brother's elbow with talon-like fingers and hauled him behind a towering bookshelf. "This is getting ridiculous!" she hissed through clenched teeth, her breath smelling faintly of this morning's cinnamon pastries. "You're about as subtle as a rampaging owlbear. You need to either confess your undying love to him or do us all a favor and drown yourself in the bath. I recommend the lavender oils—they'll mask the stench of your pathetic pining."
"Oh, I do apologize!" Vax whisper-shouted, flinging his hands skyward. "I'm terribly sorry that my inconvenient passion for my straight best friend and my desperate desire to ride his magnificent endowment like a champion jockey at the Tal'Dorei Derby is somehow disrupting your day!" His voice cracked on the final word.
Vax is in love with Percy. And honestly the pining is getting pathetic.

Vax was a little shit. Percy knew this like he knew the exact calibration of his firearms—intimately, thoroughly, and with both frustration and admiration. He'd known this before they got involved, and in the months they'd been together, Vax had elevated tormenting Percy into something approaching an art form. Like tonight.
Vorugal has been defeated, Vox Machina have refused to let Percy run off half cocked at Ripley and so they're 'celebrating'. He's going to murder his lover before the nights over if Vax doesn't stop fucking grinding.
