Wei Ying has a lot on his plate right now.
It’s finals week -- which isn’t so bad. He’s never had to study much to do well in classes. But that just means that things are that much more tense with Jiang Cheng, who, as far as Wei Ying can tell, only takes study breaks long enough to glare at Wei Ying where he sits on the couch playing video games.
It’s not studies that have Wei Ying stressed out. It’s everything else. It’s the recruitment for the research trial he’s coordinating. It’s jiejie and her impending marriage to His Royal Douchebag Jin Zixuan. It’s the volunteer work at the palliative care facility. It’s Wen Ning’s worsening condition. It’s Wen Qing working herself thin to care for her brother and Wen Yuan. It’s the way Wen Yuan never seems to have enough food.
There’s enough on Wei Ying’s plate already, meaning it’s not entirely welcome when he comes home and finds a man standing in his bedroom. A man in extravagant white robes, a ribbon tied around his forehead, long hair gathered into a topknot, fist clutching a sword at his side, who asks him, “Where am I?”

A note about early season canon: At the end of this episode Zhu Jiu sounds surprised that a mere college professor was able to counteract Wang Yike's fast, fatal aging power, which I took to mean he has not yet figured out that Shen Wei is the Envoy...and on that fragile, fragile foundation is built a story.

Shen Wei looks at the fish tank, then back at Zhao Yunlan. “I’m not sure I’m following the significance of this.”
OR: Faced with a string of murders targeting university professors much like Shen Wei, Zhao Yunlan assigns himself to keep Shen Wei safe. Shen Wei cannot seem to convince the man that he does not require a bodyguard.
