Roy was at Jason's side half a heartbeat later, one hand gripping Jason's wrist for his pulse while he leant down to press an ear to his thoracic. Jason was a lot of things. A heavy sleeper was not one of them. His pulse felt steady, though—slow but strong as ever—and his skin was hot under Roy's fingertips. Normal for Jason. Breathin's clear, too. He rocked upright again, moving his free hand to cup the side of Jason's face now, stubble scratching against his palm. "Little pale there, huh?" he murmured, his thumb gently raking the ridge of his cheekbone.
Even for people in their lines of work, friendship doesn't just mean hopping from crisis to crisis; the quiet moments matter, too.
Especially for people who have to fight so hard to get a quiet moment at all.

Roy knew. He knew what it was like to hate yourself. He knew the face of self-loathing—the hollow eyes, the tight jaw, the way you couldn't quite meet your own gaze in the mirror. He'd seen it reflected back at him thousands of times. He also recognized it on the person next to him.
"Jay, Jay, please talk to me." Roy's voice cracked on the second plea. "I know you're not doing… well. Just talk to me."

Summary
Roy is doing fine. If "fine" includes coughing up a lung every five minutes, that is. He didn't mean to get a face-full of toxic chemicals on that last mission, it just sorta happened. And now he gets to pay for it with his trachea and esophagus.
Thankfully, Jason is a mother hen when he wants to be, and Roy is one of the select few blessed with Jason Hugs.
