Summary
“That’s an ugly pet you’ve got there,” Satoru comments, peering over Yuuji’s shoulder for a better look at the blob of baby-pink flesh he’s cradling.
A baleful red eye bores into him. “Gojou Satoru—”
“I think he’s kinda cute.”
Sukuna’s comically tiny mouth—made all the more hilarious by how the voice coming from within is still his deep bass—snaps shut, that single eye swiveling back to Yuuji while dripping offense and incredulity.
“Cute?” Satoru asks, joining Sukuna in staring at Yuuji.
There’s an unrepentant shrug. “Like a very weird cat. I think he’d be a cat, if he were an animal. You too, sensei. Different types, though. Very different.”
“You’ve…put a lot of thought into this,” Satoru says faintly.
“I’ve had a lot of time to think.” Yuuji smiles. The first smile Satoru’s seen from him, and all he can think is that Yuuji should never, ever smile—not like this. “Hey, Sukuna? If I give you the choice to stay with me, you’ll just say no again, right?”
In one world, death snatches Satoru away from the arms of victory. In this one, his student saves him from the jaws of death.
But this isn’t the Yuuji he knows.

Summary
“Oh,” Yuuji says, realization dawning, “you’re like a puppy.”
Gojou stills. Slowly, with a strange air, he raises his head. Heavy-lidded blue eyes blink at Yuuji. “Does that mean I get treats?”
Yuuji blinks right back. “Treats?”
“Puppies need to be trained,” Gojou says sagely, lifting himself up on both arms to hover over Yuuji. “Positive reinforcement. Don’t you know that?”
“No?” Yuuji’s thought of raising puppies, who hasn’t, but it wasn’t ever really a serious thought. It was never a realistic dream anyway.
Plus, Gojou’s not actually a puppy. He’s not even any good at making puppy-dog eyes. They glow too much.
They’re glowing right now, twin pools of starfire made severe by the way he’s frowning. “You’re not a very responsible dog owner then. Puppies are a lot of work, you know.”
Dog owner, Yuuji repeats in his head, every other feeling swept under a wave of confusion.
Gojou’s still frowning at him, except it’s starting to look more and more like a pout, and—
“Oh! You want treats.”
An offhand comment leads to Yuuji discovering the dubious joys of pet ownership.

“Why are you mad at me?”
“You were gone,” Satoru says pointedly. “For five days.”
The mission was supposed to take fifteen, and the little shit scowling imperiously up at Yuuji like a jilted king is exactly why Yuuji tore through the curses on minimal sleep and food. And he still gets scolded for it.
It’s still cute.
“Miss me that much?” Yuuji teases.
“Yes.”
Yuuji melts a little. “I’m here now. Got a criminally early flight just so I could come wake you up. And then got stuck in traffic, but I guess it doesn’t matter since you haven’t left the bed anyway. Chie-san said you’ve been terrorizing your guards. Honestly, Satoru-kun…”
“I don’t need guards.”
“Oh, so you don’t need me?”
Satoru rolls his eyes. “Obviously, I need you. You’re Yuuji. Fuck the rest of them.”
“Satoru! Language!”
When Yuuji’s fifteen, Gojou Satoru dies; when Yuuji’s seventeen, Gojou Satoru is born.- Language:
