"Do Eridians have mental sicknesses? Stuff that's not a physical problem. An emotional problem."

"Yes. We already talked about this. Some are crazy..." His body language is apprehensive. You can tell by the way his fingers are curled.

    I frown. "I'm not crazy."

It's a peaceful yet average day on the surface of Adrian. That is until the sky begins to ignite, and strange links of chain begin to fall from the sky.

A few short stories of Rocky and Grace getting to know each other/learning about each others biology/cultures. About 90% slice of life comedy that gets a little sad for about 3 lines before getting funny again.

Eridians are pretty resilient, but their cells are even more susceptible to radiation than humans’ are. I’d imagine that even though he spent most of his time around the fuel tanks and thus was shielded most of the time, Rocky still didn’t come away from his 50 or so years in space totally unscathed.

    Summary

I don’t think the mission was a failure. I don’t think Rocky’s dead — I can’t bring myself to believe that. They’re alive. Oh, Universe. Please say Rocky’s alive.

It’s been just over 600 (eridian) years since Rocky left. The crew was assumed dead long ago; the mission, declared a failure. But when a dim light reads on the petrovascopes, it’s all Adrian can do not to cry out in joy. The whole planet is carapace-deep in celebration…until they realise that — oh, goodness — that’s not the original ship; and they get word that everything has gone so, so terribly wrong.
