Summary
The wizarding world loses a child the night Voldemort falls.
A child born precariously, scandalously, close to his parents' graduation.
A Muggle finds him, swaddled in a blanket bearing his first name.
Separated by accidental magic and raised entirely outside the magical world, Adrian Potter grows up believing he is Muggleborn.
The local council does what councils do. By the time the wizarding world launches their frantic search for Adrian Potter, it's too late.
The search for the missing Potter eventually fades. He is presumed dead.
Harry Potter grows up exactly as canon dictates.
No one lies. No one chooses wrongly.
The conclusion simply sets, as conclusions do, when no new information arrives.
Adrian is educated, sorted, and shaped under a classification that was never meant for him, while the wizarding world quietly closes a file it believes resolved.

Summary
Harry Potter has been dead for 7 years now, known only by his family, Albus Dumbledore and the members of the Order of The Phoenix. Time passes and it becomes abundantly clear that Charles Potter, the 'boy-who-lived' did not defeat Voldemort on Hallows Eve after the Dark Lord's resurrection; Dumbledore is scrambling to find the true child of the prophecy, just as a group of Aurors raid an illegal Black Market and find a very-much alive Harry Potter.

Shaken by the return of Voldemort and Cedrics death, fifth year already promised to wreak havoc on Harry’s nervous system. Harry felt like there wasn’t exactly a point that predated his hell of a summer that he could blame. He could choose to believe it was Dudley’s “Harry Hunting” first, but he wouldn’t have been caught if he hadn’t been having nightmares about Cedric, and Cedric wouldn’t have died if he hadn’t been in that graveyard, and they wouldn’t have been in that graveyard if Harry hadn’t been chosen for the Triwizard Tournament.
And it would just go on and on, backwards in causation ‘til before Harry had even been born.
And fuck, what a mistake that was.
