Summary
On a relatively small ship in the middle of the ocean, there was really only a very limited number of possibilities when items started to go missing. Small things could get wedged behind furniture, sure, or fall overboard if they were above deck and improperly secured. But aside from the potential presence of some sort of aquatic-based item-stealing anomaly, that was about extent of the possibilities.
Still, Ford didn't think too much of it when he first noticed his missing sweater. It was just one sweater, after all.
