Summary
After encountering various dangerous situations, sometimes even coming close to death itself, Harry realise that he can't just rely on his wand anymore. He is, after all, only fourteen years old with only three years of magical education. He didn't want to end up defenceless like he had with the spirit of Tom Riddle or with Sirius Black. Only the arrogance of the first and the truth about the second had saved him from being killed.
To help him and his friends stay safe, Harry decide to build his own weapon, one relatively compact that it could be hidden inside his robes, one relatively powerful that he wouldn't require asking help to the Sorting Hat like in the Chamber of Secrets, one that could be built by someone of his age. He doesn't know what weapon to built. Then, Hermione invite him and Ron to watch the Star Wars trilogy in her home. Harry is awed by the concept of the lightsaber, and immediately decide to built that as a weapon. So, he ask for Mr. Ollivander's help to build the most important part of it.
By the time of the World Cup, Harry has a fully functioning purple lightsaber...
