A moment later, his even breathing told her he was asleep. Audrey closed her eyes and wrapped her arm around his chest. Her last semi-conscious dream was of a little red-haired girl named Janet chasing a certain vet down the tiled hallways of Skeldale.”
Siegfried Farnon and Audrey Hall are finally married. Over the next few years, they pass many milestones together: Tristan marries, James and Helen experience loss, and new life comes to Skeldale.
A sequel to my earlier work "It's Always Been You". A comfortable, meandering “what-if” for Siegfried & Audrey.

Siegfried looked at her, noting the mild anxiety creasing her brow. He stopped. “Is something wrong?” he asked.
Audrey looked at him, then down at her hands twisting together. “No. No, I were just thinking…well, I was wondering what…why you…” she stopped for a moment and gathered her thoughts. She decided that it would be best to get straight to the point. She had never been good at beating around the bush, anyway. “Mr. Farnon, when you said that you wanted a soulmate like Plato—or whoever it was—wrote about…what did you mean?”
