His gray eyes make a piercingly, unreadable lock onto her, and for the first time, Evelyn feels something deeper than dread. Panic.
He studies her like an artist appraising a new canvas. No, not an artist. A collector. For a long moment, neither of them speak. He takes his time, studying her, assessing her, observing something that he already considers his. She can feel that she belongs to him now.
Finally, he speaks. “The pleasure’s all mine.”
