Set right after season 2.
It's always been SteveandTommyandCarol. Then it was just TommyandCarol when Steve decided to leave them for some girl. Tommy couldn't deny that he was angry. Carol was too even if she pretended it didn't bother her. They just didn't understand why Steve would ditch them for some priss who didn't even love him.
So when he's in Hospital and Tommy and Carol find out Billy Hargrove put him there, they hatch a plan to bring him back. Both to their lives and as King. Now on his terms. And if they knock Billy Hargrove down a peg maybe that's just an extra benefit.
