    The wash of heat from Michael’s body is immediate; Alex sways instinctively into it, proximity soothing the fine tremors of spent adrenaline and pain into sweet anticipation. For all the reasons they maybe shouldn’t, Alex can’t let go of the picture of Michael kneeling at their feet, that heartbreaking face of his drawn into a concerned frown as he’d dressed Alex’s wound. He isn’t willing to part from the gentle graze of Maria’s fingers, firm and sure in their affection as they’d smoothed over the tape.

    He’s safe here, bracketing Michael as he turns all that heat away from Maria to press his lips against Alex’s next. And after everything he’s been through, all the years he spent bereft of that feeling, Alex thinks that maybe he deserves to feel safe tonight.
