"I realized something," Yaz starts.
"And what's that?" Jace asks.
"I always fancied it, you know," She fiddles with the ring on her index finger; feels it make an indent on her skin. "A gap year. Finding myself. Never really did it. I was too focused on uni. But I'd like to. With you."
Something flashes across Jace’s face. Her eyes light up. “Yasmin Khan, are you propositioning me?”
Yaz tilts her head. Grins a little. “So what if I was?”
Yaz is an up-and-coming investigative journalist with UNIT. Only all her coworkers, save for two, hates her guts. Same old, same old. When she's assigned to write a puff piece on the Division, it leads her onto a trail of shady inventions and a disgraced inventor by the name of Jace Smith. Which would be fine, really, if Yaz hadn't met Jace in a pub all those months ago and began seeing her secretly. Nothing can ever be that simple, can it?

Summary
Yasmin Khan gets a new job as a counsellor for the Tecteun Foundation, a renowned children's organisation, where she will also help the head of research, Eden T. Brown, with her new education project. Except the Foundation's director is a known homophobe, and Yaz can't risk anyone there finding out about her sexuality if she wants to make sure the girls who live at the Foundation are okay.
And she definitely shouldn't get too close to the director's daughter...

"She pulled at the edge of her hood, making sure it hid her features, then slid off the side of the overhang until she hung from the edge by one hand.
Her other arm found its target quickly, although to her surprise, it was only one man. She flicked her wrist, and a small knife was propelled from its hidden spot in her gauntlet just in time for the man's eyes to find her and his mouth to open in surprise.
The blade bore itself into the spot right between his eyes. He dropped, his mouth still open."

"When the woman finally stepped into the moonlight, Yaz’s eyes went wide as her breath caught in her throat.
Blonde hair framing a soft face and eyes shining with mischief, the woman shifted to let one hand rest lazily on her hip as her lips curled into a satisfied smirk. She was dressed in black breeches, a black shirt and a deep purple jerkin that was hugging the dip just above her hips.
“I have to say”, the woman said as she slowly walked towards Yaz, “from what I was told, I hadn’t expected Koschei’s little toy to be this…” – she kneeled down, a cool finger grazing over Yaz’s jaw and sending shivers down her spine – “pretty.”"
