A gasp tears her attention away from assessing her pack of women to the end of the rig, where an apparition has made itself known.
A mirage.
There’s a man there. And he’s pointing a shotgun at them. There’s a light breeze across the barren land and Furiosa subtly scents the air. She catches the copper of blood, the stench of warboys, but his scent is strangely faint, muted. And he isn’t drenched in the overwhelming miasma of that awful paint Joe’s half-lives like to coat themselves in.

Or: Furiosa is an alpha trying to bring her pack of women to the Green Place. Max is surviving in a world that has forgotten there is such a thing as male omegas. They make unfortunate first impressions upon each other.
