Most of the time, he’s okay. He can hear fine, really, even though most of the time it sounds like someone has turned down the volume, and he desperately wants to find the remote to put things back to the level they should be.
But he’s fine, most of the time.

But sometimes, he’s not. Sometimes things just sound muffled. Sometimes they’re more distorted, like music through a speaker in another room. Sometimes it feels like he’s underwater, and someone is trying to talk to him through the waves.

Katsuki doesn’t like many people but he instantly likes his audiologist, so when she tries to assign him to a different sign language instructor, he cuts her off and says, ‘I want you to teach me.’
She looks surprised.
‘I’m a fast learner,’ he tells her convincingly.
She holds up her hand, three fingers raised, forefinger and thumb touching to form an ‘o’ shape.
‘This means okay,’ she mouths, her expression impish.
He resists slapping her hand away but can’t entirely apprehend a smirk. ‘I know that, dumbass.’
