Summary
Noel allowed his eyes to slip shut, plunging the world into comforting darkness. He could nearly pretend he was dozing off in bed, if not for the taste of iron on his tongue, down his throat. His limbs were heavy and sluggish and he stopped moving them—waited for his lungs to get the memo.
He hadn't the faintest idea how long he laid there.
Distantly, he could make out the patter of what might have been footsteps, the precise thump, thump of shoes on the cold stone pressed against his cold back permeating his cold core.
A shadow seemed to fall across him, further darkening the blackness of his closed eyelids.
“...Roland?” he rasped out, his voice as reedy as a smoker after a whole pack of cigarettes.
“‘Fraid not, Detective.”
