Summary
After the chaos of the tourney, Prince Daeron Targaryen faces the aftermath of bloodshed and injury. Searching for Egg, he finds Ser Duncan gravely wounded by the elm tree — and is forced to confront his own guilt.
"His heart ached seeing the knight like this. Daeron did not know much of honour, didn't possess much of it himself, but he recognised it when he saw it. Ser Duncan had done what all knights should, he had defended the innocent. He had started an avalanche of blood with it, but he had stayed true to his oath."

Bookmarker's Notes
ch 20
Daeron pov. He’s a wet cat barely holding onto life by his fingernails. Meanwhile Dunk is a worried golden retriever who wants to help him but doesn’t know how.
In the aftermath of the trial, Daeron helps snap Dunk out of his guilt spiral so that his wounds can be treated. Daeron intervenes and convinces Maekar that they’ll lose Egg if he’s not allowed to squire for Dunk. He also convinces Dunk to accept Maekar’s offer to join them at Summerhall. Daeron is constantly sleep-deprived and either drunk or suffering a hangover because of the visions. He’s got two guards that are the closest things he has to friends and understand him better than his family does. Daeron is wracked with self-loathing, internalizing Maekar’s opinion that he’s useless and weak. Maekar loves him, but has given up on him. Daeron is conversely drawn to Dunk’s presence and afraid of him. They shared a hug after the trial and Daeron is tempted by the memory of feeling safe, but keeps his distance because he’s been dreaming of Dunk and Egg’s deaths every night and it hurts to look at them. Daeron finally gives in to the urge to run away from his feelings, but Dunk follows him. He convinces Daeron to take a little camping trip with him instead of drowning his sorrows at the local tavern. Things are going ok and they have a relatively pleasant evening, but Daeron wakes up screaming, having dreamt of Dunk burning to death. Rather than disgusted or afraid, Dunk is just concerned about the burden that is crushing Daeron. Daeron refuses to share what he saw, but concedes to ask Dunk to hold him. Dunk is glad to be able to help in some way and wraps Daeron up in a full body embrace. -

Summary
He rounded the corner towards the square right in front of the Temple– it was different than before because there had never been a square in front of the Temple.
Obi-Wan froze in place the moment he looked up. His eyes observed the large statues one by one.
Plo Koon, Mace Windu, Kit Fisto– they were all Councillors during the War.
Obi-Wan stood in front of the statues as tears welled up in his eyes. He hadn’t seen them in a long time and these statues looked exactly like them. From facial features and expression down to the way they were seated– as if they were in a regular Council meeting.
“Look Uncle Ben! It’s–” Obi-Wan leaped to Luke and covered his mouth before he could say anything else.
“Yes, I see, it’s General Kenobi.” He hoped the beings whose attention was drawn towards them would move on quickly. “But try not to shout, Luke, alright?”
His eyes left the boy to observe the statue of himself.

Summary
"You're lost, prince."
"Am I?" Daeron peered around as if only now noticing where he'd ended up. "Doesn't seem so. I was looking for a tent, and here's a tent." He gestured broadly, nearly toppling himself in the process.
"This isn't your tent."
"No, mine's much finer." Daeron took another wobbling step closer. "Silk and silver thread and all manner of royal rubbish. Dreadfully boring."

Summary
Duncan knew what happened when gluttons of wine were forced off it without a drop. Nothing good would come off it. Daeron would need to be weaned off it like a dog weaning off his mother’s milk.
“Then you would be a fool.” Duncan admitted as he looked upon the man who Aegon the Fifth had grown to strongly favored as summers went by.
Maeker’s mustache trembled from rage. Duncan wondered if the prince was going to raise his hand and strike him.
Duncan could take the pain. He had endured the heat and pain of Summerhall again and again to rescue people. He could endure a mere slap across his face.
“I did not realize you studied at Citadel after losing your hand,” Maeker remarked and Duncan knew Maeker meant any and all offenses Duncan might find in his remark. Duncan breathed in. He breathed out. (He did not bother counting in his head like a septa had once instructed Princess Shaera to do in order to rein in her temper.) He knew Maeker; he, in fact, knew him longer than King Baelor and, thus, he knew that Maeker could have the ire of a bear when it came to his children being in danger whether the danger was genuine or perceived.
