Sabo shifts, a subtle slide of his weight from one leg to the other. He’s anxious, uncertain, trying not to show it. Ready to bolt at the slightest surprise, whether that’s a thug jumping them in the trash heaps or a tiger leaping out of the trees.
“You don’t have to stay,” Ace tells him, dully, the words coming out in a fog. He doesn’t need to make Sabo wait with him. He doesn’t. He’s spent ten years missing his first brother, but Ace has made do, and he isn’t about to force someone to stick around if they don’t know him, don’t have any reason to care-
“I don’t have anywhere else I need to be right now.”

Normally, when Iceburg heard a scream in the scrapheaps, it either meant he needed to catch stupid Franky or yell at stupid Franky. Sometimes both, if the little twerp deserved it, after getting into more trouble than he could handle. THIS time, though, Franky was right next to him, paused in taking apart a gear casing to salvage the internal components. The two of them blinked at one another.
Another scream rang out.
They dropped their tools and booked it.
