Summary
There are no gentle rebirths.
Every sequence of Beatrice is an absorbing force for Ava and her worries. Time always passes differently in her presence. Slow. Relenting. Even black holes provide comfort, keeping the light safe inside. A lighthouse. Both shelter and warning. Their weight an anchor in an otherwise hostile environment.
And there is something else there—a diffracted similarity to Beatrice. A suggestion that they’re both different from everyone else. Like pieces of the same whole. Two fragments of the same rock, humming with identical resonance.

Or: This town is full of monsters. But none like them. -

Summary
It’s the question she asks after every fight. And every time, Ava’s answer is always the same.
One hand grabs the lapel of Beatrice’s jacket to pull her close, while the other settles itself on the back of her neck. “No,” Ava breathes, chin tilted up and body pressed against Beatrice. In this position, she can feel the muscles in Beatrice’s body all coiled and calculating—the way she gets in the ring. Their lips are only millimeters apart, and the urge to taste Beatrice is overwhelming. But Ava has been so patient, and this final move is always Beatrice’s to make.
Her eyes flutter shut. She hardly has to wait before there are hands on her hips and a mouth against hers, and Ava wants.
-
Or: Theirs is a love with teeth. It’s the only way they know how to survive.

Summary
The last of the summer sun streams in through their kitchen window, its golden mouth kissing Ava’s cheek, the curve of her shoulder. The light cradles her and yet Beatrice is the one that feels warmed. Beheld in a way that threatens to unmake her.
Or: In the safety of the Alps, Ava and Beatrice steal some time together.

Summary
Ava thinks if she had a phone, she’d call Beatrice right now. Leave her voice messages about how cool she is. How her fighting style is so badass and that she can put Ava in a headlock anytime. Mostly, she’d talk about how Beatrice should have come out tonight because it would have been much more fun if they had gotten to dance together. And Ava doesn’t know how to dance that well, not really, but Beatrice could have taught her how—because she’s so good at combat and every time they spar Ava feels like they’re dancing—and fighting and dancing are basically the same thing right?
(Mostly, she would tell Beatrice that she misses her.)

Summary
They’ve been living on borrowed time.
Ava has known that since the beginning. Known since the moment she woke up with a Halo thrust into her back. Known since Beatrice arranged for two passports under false identities. Known that every day they wake up is a day closer to being called back.
So of course she’s going to make the most of it.

The fall is longer than Natasha expects.
It’s tears cold on her face, teeth bitten all the way through her lip and the taste of copper in her mouth; she’s falling and falling and then, bracing for impact—she wakes up.

Summary
“Yeah, unless I don’t finish my degree.” It’s a grumpy little mumble, barely meant for Yelena, but she responds to it nevertheless.
“What do you mean?“ she demands. “You only have a small amount of time left! Why would you stop now?”
“I don’t know,” Kate murmurs, and Yelena is bewildered to hear a faint echo in her own emptiness, coming from nearly six thousand kilometers away. “I just don’t really know what to do now, I guess. Clint says I’m the new Hawkeye, but that’s not official or anything. And even when it is, it’s going to be a lot of training. So I’m waiting to wait, or something, and — and I don’t know why I’m talking to you about this, actually.”
“Sometimes, it’s nice to just talk,” Yelena thinks and then says. “But I don’t think you should drop out of school, Kate Bishop. School is cool.”

Summary
“What if you had a choice right now?” Billy asks.
“Depends. How many irritating questions are you forcing me to answer, in this hypothetical situation?”
“I’m serious,” Billy says, and he looks serious. There’s a strange gleam in his eye. A very 'Take me to the Witches’ Road' sort of gleam. “Would you hop back in your body right now, if you could?”
Agatha sits up. “Depends,” she says again. “Are we still talking hypotheticals?”
-----
After the events of 'real hot ghoul shit,' Billy attempts to use his Chaos magic to get Agatha back in her body. It doesn't exactly go as planned.
