Story 1: Reverse Scale
Dan Heng lifted his head, the beginnings of an apology on his lips, only to be interrupted by a loud gasp.
“Jing Yuan-daren, you should have told me that your husband was traveling with you!” Qingyin exclaimed, an expression of startled delight on his face.
Dan Heng froze. His what.
“My what?" Jing Yuan said, inadvertently echoing his thoughts.
Qingyin faltered, beginning to look flustered. “Ah, wife? Bondmate? I mean no offense. If anything, I’m glad to see that scale bonding ceremonies are still being practiced on the other ships. It's one of our oldest ones, and I feared the worst for our traditions after—well, just look at what’s been happening with the Yaoqing lately. It hardly looks like a proper Xianzhou ship anymore with all that IPC influence!”
