Passing Gerard a beer in Pencey Prep’s van before he went on for his first show; the crazed look in his eye as he stared down My Chem’s first “big” crowd; their first time playing somewhere nobody spoke their language, a thousand leagues from New Jersey.
Now they were here, and Frank knew there was more to it than just the post-show jitters. What do you need? he almost asked, but the words never made it to his mouth.
Instead he said, “Come here,” and was surprised when Gerard obeyed without a word, like it was the natural thing to do.
