It was true that games always took a lot out of him, but the fact it’d been against Boston added another layer of exhaustion to his already overwhelmed brain. He couldn’t blame Ilya for his coldness. Not after he was abandoned the moment he started to thaw.
Shane sighed again and then took a few deep breaths. Maybe loud music and a worsening headache would make it impossible to think more thoughts.
He exhaled once more with resolve, unplugging his phone from the aux cable and unbuckling his seatbelt. As he reached to open the door, his phone began buzzing in his hand. He expected it to be Rose wanting to know where he was, but his heart dropped as he read the caller ID: Montreal General Hospital.
There were only two people he’d be an emergency contact for.

He placed the file folder down on the desk, two hands placed on top, as if to stop Ilya from reaching out and opening the file to find the results himself. “I hope you had some good rest last night.” Ilya wanted to reach across and shake the man. Instead he just made a face of agreement. “I have your results now if you’re ready.”
Ilya wanted to scream. “Yes. I am ready,” he said in a managed voice instead.
Mr. Carter, sighed, then opened up the file. “Mr. Rosanov, the results yesterday concluded with 99.99 percent certainty that you are in fact the father."
