Summary
John was a leap of faith. Everything that happened, everything that he is. What he is. You don’t know. Fiction and popular media say ‘vampire’ but is that even right. What’s true.
You wonder how much he knows. What he’s learned. Couple of months.
It’s been a few weeks since you’ve seen him and you’ve taken up praying for him. It’s an unwieldy thing but you try to do it right, get on your knees before the shrine you’ve been building. Something sacred, like some god might listen more if you have another fat cupid statuette next to Shiva. Quartz and lavender. You have no idea what you’re doing, praying to every god, covering every base because you hope he’s okay. That he’s well. That his existence isn’t what’s in books and TV.
It feels important that you do. You don’t know scripture but you know his name and you say it every night, rosary in your fingers, ॐ pendant in your palm.
Strangely, it doesn’t occur to you to pray for whoever he might encounter, or for yourself.
