He stops and stands off to the side, inclining his head towards the woman who gives him no mind. She keeps her head high as she walks past him and makes her way to the front of the room.
Gasps follow her, as Stell's open backed dress reveals the marks of cruelty left on her body. Years ago, it revealed expanses of smooth, tanned skin. Today, the same fabric does nothing to hide her bony shoulders, thin frame, and the scars that cover her entire back.

I wanted to sit here with him in the dark until my eyes couldn't stand the light anymore. We could be nocturnal, wake with the moon and live our lives wrapped in bed sheets.
