Summary
Cid has always thought the romantic tales of souls switching to be overblown nonsense, not least because he’s seen it go bad so many times. Waking up as a Bearer in service to the Holy Empire of Sanbreque doesn’t seem likely to change his mind – especially not when he learns what, exactly, four Bearers are doing in the woods not far from Waloed’s camp.
Clive, meanwhile, hasn’t thought much at all about such things in the five years since the burning of Phoenix Gate. As far as he’s concerned, a switch with Waloed’s Lord Commander is just one more hardship that he needs to survive long enough to track down his brother’s killer and take his revenge.
Neither of them expect this switch to end well. Both of them, of course, are wrong.

Summary
Branded, mute, and left to die on the battlefield, Clive has survived three years in the Imperial front lines when most bearers don't last three months. But when the infamous Lord Commander of Waloed, Cidolfus Telamon, takes him prisoner instead of executing him, Clive finds himself caught in a dangerous new game. Now Clive must navigate his precarious position while guarding his most valuable secret—his true identity. In a world where allegiances shift like sand and trust comes at a deadly price, sometimes the most dangerous thing to surrender isn't your sword, but your heart.

Summary
Across the realm, the phenomenon of switching bodies between individuals was hardly a shocking event. It was a sign of a fated pair, a cosmically-ordained relationship of incredible importance, be they largely brothers-in-arms meant to die together, a secondary family when another was lost by choice or circumstance, or any other degree of closeness.
Sometimes, they were destined lovers. It was always hard to tell when a switch happened with young children, and many matchmakers were paid handsomely by busybody noblemen when one occurred. Some called this poor taste. The matchmakers called it lucrative.

Summary
These flames are nothing.
You will know what it is to burn.Joshua had almost laughed. He knew. He had been nothing but a child when he had first burned; his brother's claws shattering his ribcage, snapping his spine and carving out his heart.
Oh yes. He knew.Years later, he would think about Ultima's words and laugh again. A bitter laugh, like poison on his tongue.
He had been so wrong. So, so wrong.
He had known nothing.----------
Why it is a very bad idea to seal an evil god inside your chest.

Summary
Cid's eyebrows rise. The tankard hits the table to a dull thump, the amber liquid sloshing within. He says, “I'd call you prickly, but I know a little something about hiding in plain sight. Although, I haven't heard rumors about anyone your age making as many enemies as I have. All right, Margrace, let's hear about this brother of yours, and why you want to find him.”
An addendum to CinderSpell's 'Hope is a dangerous thing'.
