He's lost count of the hour, of himself, can only feel Clive's thick heat still inside of him, the almost suffocating air of the room.
Like a cliff corroded by tumultuous waters, from mountain to stone, it was Clive's stubbornness that had eventually brought Cid to his knees. He'd have been a fool not to have noticed the careful words, the lingering gaze, the sheer want in those eyes, but he would've been an even bigger fool to have entertained them any further.

"No," Rocky deadpans, giving me a look like I'm stupid. "Like the rocks."

“Who complained about you eating, question?” Someone must’ve said something. He’s had so many visitors in the last couple of days. Who was it? Grace has never questioned this part of himself. Grace huffs at me.
“No one! I’m just trying to be polite! Eridians have special soundproof eating rooms, shouldn’t I?”
“You are not Eridian!”
He doesn’t need to meet our standards; he’s his own species! Some things he might need to change in his daily life to adapt to Erid life, but his food habits don’t need to be one of them. My words don’t comfort Grace like I thought they would. Grace shrinks into himself, and I wish I were on his side to hug him.
or the Entities provide Grace with a culture teacher to prepare for life on Erid and he gets his first taste of Eridian inhospitality.

“Hey! It’s a lot up here, okay? It’s a normal response to stress.” He rubs a hand over his face. “Okay, I cried a lot down there, too. But not in class! Not if I could help it. But having to say goodbye, gosh, I’ve never been good at that.” Grace laughs, but it sounds sad. His mouth is shut firmly, and he leans against my ball. He’s so soft, his body melds to the side of the xenonite with ease. “I can’t imagine what a mess I’ll be when—” he cuts himself off, but I know what was coming next.
I’m not sure how I’ll be when we say goodbye either. It didn’t seem like it’d matter so much at first, after all, if we part ways, it means we succeeded. I’d be going back to Erid, to Adrian, to home. But I’d be leaving behind Grace. The thought of that is unpleasant. It sinks deep in me; the emotion is painfully familiar. It’s been a long time since I’ve had anyone to mourn losing anyone again. I don’t want to think about it, I’m not ready.
