“Do you know,” Akechi asks, sharp and cracking-brittle, his breath unsteady, “What the men you’ve been making a hobby of pissing off do to pretty, idealistic upstarts, Ren?”
“Um,” says Ren, 'we could say he stole the guard’s gun' ringing in his mind, “Kill them, I think, traditionally.”
Akechi makes a sound that’s somewhere between a hysterical laugh and an exhausted groan.
Mercy isn't easy, and you can't come through intact.

A hand comes to rest on Ren’s cheek, nudging him to turn his attention to where his— rival, friend, crush, kidnapper— is sitting.
The hand is bare. It’s probably ridiculous to fixate on that, but his hand is bare and warm, real human skin against Ren’s jaw. Similarly, Akechi is… softer, here. Less sharp, less polished. He’s traded his crisp collared shirt and starched slacks for well-worn house clothes. He’s lovely.
And he did this.
“There you are,” he says. “Welcome home, Ren.” -
