    A flash of memory from Armand. One of his last days as a mortal. Long ring-adorned fingers wrapped around a handheld mirror, silver glinting in the candle light. First he examines his neck. Smooths a salve over the bruised skin. Twin punctures dotting his flesh, some old and scarred over, others flaking scabs. He is sore. There is a painful, swollen bite on his collarbone that hurts to touch.

    In-between the interview with Louis, Armand tells Daniel his story.
