But he isn’t going to say anything because she clearly needs it, has a wild haunted look in her eyes from more than just riding out a tornado clutching a metal pole and her breathing is just the right side of erratic.

    “Y’alright?” He asks gently, feeling a little bit like he’s approaching a spooked horse, when the ambulance pulls up and they both point at the mom and her daughter in sync. Kate blinks up at him before she shudders in a deep breath, holds it for a few seconds and releases his wrist when she exhales.
