At first, it seemed as if nothing was going to happen. Then, the machine grew noisy, as if it were alive, and a cacophony of sounds exploded. Some pipes sang, some let out rusty whines, and some were dead quiet.
Startled, the rat fell on his bottom as he flinched away. But then, it all quieted down.
