Frank's barely fucking touched his guitar when his D-string snaps. And so does Frank. He can feel the power swirl around him, crackling in the air. There's a screech of feedback: the lights blow a second later, and sparks swirl around one of the amps.
There's a chorus of panicked swearing. Then James says, "Yeah, so, why don't we go ahead and take five?"

Summary
Gerard Way is one of the finest skalds in the kingdom, and one of the few invited by the queen herself to perform at the kingdom's centennial celebrations. But everything he's worked so hard for is thrown into jeopardy when he finds himself the target of a nasty curse. After all, what is a skald without a voice?
Desperate to break the curse, and to keep anyone from finding out about his affliction, Gerard seeks help from the kingdom's most powerful—and reclusive—mage, Grant Morrison. Morrison and his assistant, Frank Iero, quickly determine that the curse on Gerard is both intensely complicated and insidiously specific. To break it, they'll need to search the kingdom for the spell's origin, and then work to unravel its many layers. With the centennial celebrations only a few weeks away, the clock is ticking. Will they recover the Skald's missing voice in time?

Across the crowded room, Roronoa Zoro lifted a sun-faded, wide-brimmed leather hat off his head and looked up to meet Sanji’s gaze for the first time in seven years. “Hey, cook,” he said.
Sanji calmly reached beneath the bar and hefted a shot glass into his hand, tossing it straight up and catching it in his palm to test the weight. Then he wound up and flung it unceremoniously at Zoro’s traitorous skull.

The Eridian thrills a high sound that doesn’t get picked up by the translator which means that it has no clear meaning. Like when a human gasps or sucks in a deep breath. It actually sounds a little like that. When they notice that I’m staring straight at them they scramble back into their hiding spot and hold very still.
A child, I realize with a start.
That’s a child!
“Hey,” I call and the kid squeaks again. I was about to get to my feet but abort the movement and crawl closer on my hands and knees until I'm inches away from the xenonite wall. I wait and it takes me much too long to realize that they don’t have to peek around the corner to see if I’m still there.
“Hey there,” I try again, my voice low and calm. It’s my teacher voice, the one I use for shy and scared students.
Used.
The fact that I haven’t had to use it for years and it still comes to me automatically almost knocks the air out of my lungs but this is not about me, it’s about making sure the little pebble doesn’t die of fright from the scary alien. “Hi, I’m Grace. It’s alright, you don’t have to be scared.”

That seems to pique Jayce’s interest. “It isn’t?”
“If I had a choice in the matter, I would choose my independence,” Viktor says in a rush. “But alas. Society dictates that I must marry or beg. And I will not beg.”
He’s not entirely sure what prompts him to be so recklessly honest, and regrets it almost immediately. But Jayce simply nods.
“It is unfair,” he says quietly.
Or, how to rationalise accepting a proposal of marriage from a man you’ve only just met.
